This No Cancer Day Card is perfect for you to encourage a Cancer-Free Day, they are SO important! On days when your friend is feeling great, he or she may want to avoid the topic all together, and that’s OK.
Writing on front: Let’s have a No Cancer Day!
Writing on inside: You Deserve a day where the “C word” doesn’t exist. Let’s pick a time when you’re feeling OK and pretend just for a day that your life doesn’t revolve around doctors appointments and have some fun, just like old times!
No Cancer Day Card Inspiration
I can remember on my mom’s good days, when I’d bring up the topic and ask her how she was feeling – if her peripheral neuropathy (tingling/burning in the fingers and toes) had improved or if she was feeling nauseous. She’d say, “Oh, today I don’t have cancer.” She knew that she needed days to be normal, to not think about cancer and just be herself again, to have a cancer holiday, however brief it may have been. Be sensitive to these times, as it feels good to have a break, when your entire life doesn’t revolve around cancer. This would be a good time to talk about what’s been going on in your life, and distract her with things you used to talk about before her diagnosis.
Don’t just sign and send! Fill up this card with what you want to do with your friend and how much you care for him or her. If you have any doubts about how to act or what to say (and what not to say) to your friend with cancer, check out our article, 28 Ways to Show You Care.
Whatever you do, as tempting as it is, do NOT include inspiring cancer quotes into your greeting cards or conversations with cancer patients. They’re seen as patronizing, and coming from someone who doesn’t have cancer, they’re not helpful, at all. Patients would rather you just listen to them, and treat them as normal people.
